Artist Statement

Residua

My painting reveals the merging of intuitive layering, art historical imagery and a fascination with the ever-changing surfaces that evolve in the patina of time. There is a level of mystery in these fragments that connect the classical and contemporary experience. Shifting faded color, remnants and worn palimpsests found in ancient walls and frescoes float above the particular to become metaphoric traces of human presence. The poetic potential of what is fragile and fleeting intertwined with remnants that endure inspires my work. I am drawn to a responsive process that celebrates this interplay of past and present, imagined and tangible, what is lost and what remains.
