Artist Statement

My paintings are inspired by a fascination with the beauty of remnants from ancient and classical worlds. There is a level of mystery but actuality in these art historical fragments that connect the ancient and contemporary experience. The continuously aging color, missing forms and rich surface patina reveals a shifting visual record of what disappears and what remains. The interplay of the past and present, actual and imagined, and the fragile but enduring informs my work. I am interested in the poetic potential where appropriations from history and my own sensibility meet to create new meaning.
